I was watching a film and it was a mental hospital full of people with phobias, if you have a phobia (extreme) do they hospitalize you? What are some other treatments?
What if someone went mental because of the phobia?
No, if you are a danger to yourself or others they hospitalize you. The most frequent treatment for phobias is CBT (cognitive behavioral therapy). For example if you are afraid of spiders, you will start out by thinking about a spider and you will learn to control your breathing and heart rate. Then you will see a picture of a spider, again controlling your breathing and thoughts until you are comfortable. Then you will progress on and on until you can actually hold a spider in your hand without freaking out, by utilizing the control methods you have learned. I think there is also a new therapy that some people are using called RET (Rational Emotive Therapy) but I do not know as much about those techniques.
They don’t hospitalize people these days unless you’re a danger to yourself or others. You sound on the money to me. Hell, they let me remain in society.

Usually, a Psychologist can help in just a few visits, unless it’s very serious.
