I was diagnosed with social anxiety disorder about 3 years ago. I’m 19 and only have several friends in high school. I get extremely nervous and uncomfortable in social situations with people I don’t know. I made no friends and talked to virtually no one in my first year of college. I was prescribed Zoloft and took it for 2 years and it had no effect. I don’t want to go back on drugs but I’m miserable and don’t know what else to do. Does any have experience with social anxiety disorder or no someone who has it? What worked for them? Should I try another type of SSRI such as Paxil CR or some other kind of drug?

I have social anxiety disorder; I was diagnosed about 3 years ago. I have tried medication and therapy, but I don’t like how the medication makes me feel and I would like to find an alternative to therapy. How do you combat negative thoughts and face your fears in social situations? One negative thought in particular I am having difficulty with is the constant fear that my boyfriend is cheating on me. How do I get rid of this?

I’ve been getting migraines for the past 2 or 3 years due to stress. I usually get them first thing in the morning, maybe one day a month. On these days I have a hard time getting up and going to work. It feels like a ring around my head that someone is pressing down on. Sometimes it goes up to the top of my head too. Daylight will bother me. Every once in a while I’ll throw up. Although, compared to other people’s stories, my migranes seem mild. My internal medicine doctor recommended Excedrine for migraines which works well. But sometimes it feels like my migraine doesn’t fully go away and lingers there all day long. Should I be taking something stronger? Should I just ask my internal medicine doctor for a prescription? What would you recommend to take?

I did just this after 3 years of depression.

My depression culminated in an attempted suicide at age 10.

The modern view in medicine is that suicide is a consequence of failing to cope with "depression".

There is plenty of information regards this topic online, but hardly any on how a person can overcome depression without medical help, this is why i want to know what you think is a persons reason/s for leaving depression behind without medical help.

      Thanks.

I’m 16 years old and have social anxiety. I had it for 3 years and hate it. I have no friends at all and want to fit in and live a normal teen life. Can social anxiety be overcome without medication? How do become social anxiety? I want to have friends but I’m too scare and shy to talk to people. Let’s say there’s somebody i want to be friends with and sits next to me. How do I get their attention? Besides asking them for a pencil, what else can I say?
