Yes, it can last 2 days. Natural remedies include avoiding foods such as wine and certain cheeses, and especially, get 8 hours of sleep a night. I cannot imagine for myself trying to endure a migraine without Imitrex. It’s a non-narcotic and it really works.

Migraines can unfortunately last for several days. I have been a migraine sufferer for 11 years now. I’ve tried many different kinds of relief, most of them have done nothing for me. Over the counter items don’t work, prescriptions such as Imitrex doesn’t work, preventative medications such as Topamax SOMETIMES work and I have been given heavy sedatives to help me sleep and essentially become legally high to not be in so much pain. On this coming Tuesday I’m FINALLY going in for a brain scan to see what is going on. I’m not sure if it’s a sinus problem or if it’s a migraine problem. Sometimes if you get a migraine, it can cause you to get a stuffy nose and vice versa. If you get a stuffy nose, you can get a migraine. So the doctors aren’t really sure which comes first in my case. IF and only IF I can actually fall asleep and stay asleep, it’s one of the only things that helps me. Typically there are 5 key items I need for relief and they are:

1. Quiet
2. A dark room
3. An ice bag on my head
4. Vicks vapor rub up my nose to open up my nasal passages to help me breath (it reduces the throbbing somehow)
5. Sleep

Lately, I’ve been having abnormal migraines that aren’t typical to my "normal" migraines which have caused me to seek out more answers as to why this is happening. I’ve been blacking out, becoming disoriented, and a few weeks back my head was throbbing so hard my teeth were chattering together!

I hope this information helps you. Get some rest love!

Depends on the person. Mine generally last an hour if I take the triptan but will last all day if I don’t. I have had some that took me three days to get rid of.
Things you can do: First, keep a headache journal of what you may have eaten or done then got a headache. This helps you identify your triggers so you know what to stay away from. Coffee helps if you have a headache. Sleep regularly, not too much or too little. Eat regularly and don’t skip meals. Acupuncture, TENS units, massage therapy ( I love that one), moderate exercise, biofeedback, and quit smoking. There is a natural migraine herbal combination you can get at the health food store. It should have willow bark, which is where we get aspirin from. I think it is called Migranol but I am not sure. It has been a while since I used it. Ask someone at a reputable local health food store (not GNC).
