I am literally being pulled apart. There is an inherent contradiction between my perception and reality. I often feel useless, worthless, and undesirable, so obviously I avoid being noticed as much as possible. Others (women) have taken notice of me, but I have always found a way to avoid or to reject them without them knowing they have been rejected. Obviously, I want the love and affection of women, but I am unable reciprocate on a mature level.

Okay well when I go up into the front of the class I tremble like mad (my whole body does.) Especially my head and hands, I suffer from social anxiety and when I’m nervous it’s even worse.

Any way I can prevent this?

Been on Lexapro about a year now. 30 mg. It seems to be losing its effect it once had. It still works just I am back to having social anxiety. What is a good addition? I heard Buspar may work well. Suggestions to talk to my Dr. about?

Does anyone who feels awkward or anxious in social situations overcompensate and try to prove to themselves or others that they don’t have a problem by being involved in numerous activities, groups, and events?

For example, I know a guy who seems to have social anxiety, yet he is a president of a club, a brother in a fraternity, a member of an activity group, and a bunch of other things. This surprises me since I would think someone with this problem would avoid all social situations. What do you guys think?

I know it is supposed to take several weeks to help depression but is it the same with anxiety? I feel that social anxiety is a bigger problem for me than the depression itself.

I’ve been taking 10mg Prozac for 2 weeks and just 3 days ago my doc took me up to 20mg.

I’m 32, I’ve never really dated, and I have a lot of anxiety in social situations. I would like to find a woman to date, and have a romantic relationship with, but at my age, most women are pretty experienced, and I am not. I’m uncomfortable with this, and generally uncomfortable in my own skin.

How can I go about dating at my age when I’ve not done it before and I have so much anxiety?

I’ve had social anxiety disorder for three years now and it gets worse everyday. I stopped going to school because the panic attacks and i couldan’t handle being in large crowds.
I’ve lost all my friends since i’ve got it, and i’ve become depressed because i’m so lonely.

I sit at home alone, most nights, just researching stuff on the computer, working out, watching tv etc. I have a social anxiety issue so just going to a bar and meeting people is really scary thought for me. This really sucks. I have a couple friends but it seems that they are busy or don’t think to call me. Even if they did invite me out, I would feel so uncomfortable going. Any one have advice?
